C2J Solutions, Inc. Looks into the Future of the Construction Industry and Their Local Community
February 20, 2010, C2J Solutions, Inc. sponsored the hot dogs, chips, sodas, and water for just over 130 children who participated in the annual Block Kids event, hosted by The Greater Orlando Chapter #73 of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC). NAWIC holds this event to promote careers in the construction industry by introducing children, at the elementary level, to new ideas and experiences.
The Block Kids Building Program is a nation-wide competition, free of charge, and open to all elementary level students grades one through six. The contestants are judged on originality and creativity, attention to detail, use of provided materials, oral presentation, enthusiasm and reason for participation.
NAWIC is a non-profit association and relies on their Construction Industry Partners to sponsor this festive and educational event. C2J Solutions, Inc. was a proud sponsor for Block Kids this year by providing the hot dogs, chips, sodas, and water for all the participants, their parents, and the Greater Orlando NAWIC Members who organized the event. C2J Solutions, President Steven L. Jackson volunteered his Saturday morning to be one of the judges for this event. His reaction this year was as rewarding as ever. “The Block Kids event is a great setting for children to learn about construction careers, giving them the opportunity to use their imagination and creativity to build a construction project using Legos. Each year these children amaze me with their projects and the thought process behind them. This competition confirms my belief that the future of our industry is in good hands.”
Construction Industry Companies donated trucks and drivers to allow the children to explore some machinery and to ask questions. Some of the equipment included a trencher, cement truck dump truck, and crane. Under the supervision of the drivers they were permitted to turn switches and honk the horns. The DJ, Stilt-walker, balloon and face painting artists lent it a festival atmosphere. Trophies where given to the top 3, as well as savings bonds and other prizes. The top scoring boy and girl from each grade also received a bicycle. All participants received a goody bag and a Certificate of Participation.
Thanks to NAWIC for organizing such a wonderful event and thanks to the many construction industry professionals who donated time, money, and equipment to make it educational and fun.
